We obsess over omnichannel, but what if we’ve been thinking about it all wrong?

Are we truly crafting immersive brand experiences, or just moving content from platform to platform?

I'm currently reading 'The Content Machine: A History of Publishing from the Printing Press to the Digital Network' and I've come across two terms which I think may be the missing piece to truly omnichannel activity.

📖 Transmedia Storytelling: expands the narrative across platforms, so every touchpoint is essential.

🔍 Paracontent: enhances those narratives with additional layers; interactive content, in-universe experiences and behind-the-scenes insights.

It's then omnichannel media planning/activation which ensures this all reaches the right people at the right time.

If you bring these pieces together, you don’t just deliver impressions, you create immersion.

These are the missing pieces that turn a fragmented strategy into a cohesive, immersive brand universe.

So why aren't we talking about all three in the same breath?

It's no secret that the creative is the biggest driver of advertising effectiveness.

Yet, too often we silo creative and media strategy when they should be working hand in hand.

What if we started thinking about transmedia storytelling and paracontent as core components of media planning, not just as afterthoughts?

It’s time to stop treating content like a checklist and start building stories that actually matter.
